What Our Customers Say...

Description

Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

A New Edition of The Harbours of England, engraved by Thomas Lupton from the drawings of J. M. W. Turner.

This work has illustrative text by John Ruskin, an art critic who championed the work of Turner in Modern Painters, arguing that the role of the artist is "truth to nature."

This volume presents works by Turner of harbours. The paintings capture the beauty and danger of the sea, craftsmanship of the boats and the light glistening on the water of the harbours of Dover, Ramsgate, Plymouth and others.

Turner was an English Romantic painter known for his expressive colouring and imaginative landscapes of turbulent and often violent marine paintings.

With twelve plates.
Collated, complete.

Condition

In the original cloth binding. Externally, very smart with some light marks to the boards and light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages.
