'Bracebridge Hall' is a novel consisting of a series of character sketches and numerous plots. The novel centers around the occupants on a manor in England, based on Aston Hall in Birmingham where the author visited. Written by Washington Irving, an American author best known for his short stories 'Rip Van Winkle' and 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow'. He was one of the first American writers to earn acclaim in Europe, and paved the way for the likes of Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry Longfellow, and Edgar Allan Poe. Illustrated by Randolph Caldecott. Caldecott was an illustrator who was a great influence of children's books illustrations throughout the nineteenth century. With numerous in-text monochrome illustrations throughout.
Rebound in a half crushed morocco binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, smart. A little rubbing to the boards and joints. Minor marking to the leather to the joints. Light fading to the spine. Scattered spots to the fore edge. Front hinge is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with scattered spots.
