The scarce first English edition of this work, with a blind stamp identifying it as 'Presented By The Publisher' to the head of the first few leaves.

Translated from G Auerbach's original German by British physicist and chemist Sir William Crookes, credited with the discovery of the element thallium, and a pioneer of vacuum tubes, a foundational discovery that eventually changes
the whole of chemistry and physics.

This work is concerned with the involvement of anthracen, artificial alizarin and anthrapurpurin in dying, printing and manufacturing.

To the half title is the former owner's label of 'Mr. R. J. Middleton', alongside an ink inscription dated 1960.

With a forty-four page publisher's catalogue to the rear.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Fading to spine, with bumping to head and tail. Former owner's label to half title, alongside ink inscription. Publisher's blind stamp to head of first few pages. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally clean and bright, with some light foxing to first few pages.
