First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding
An interesting account of South Australia, containing a history of the founding of the country, and descriptive notes of its railways, laws, immigration, education, industry, and all resources. Edited by William Harcus.
The first edition of this work in the original publisher's brown quarter cloth binding; the same edition was seen in full cloth variants green and brown, and quarter cloth variants with brown and blue spine. Priority is unknown.
Collated, all engraved plates and the large folding coloured map were excised.
Condition
In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding over paper covered boards. Externally sound with minor shelf wear, minor bumping to head and tail of spine and extremities of boards, damp mark to front board. William Asheton Tonge's bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Damp mark cockling the leaves through, with staining marks affecting pp. 93-173, with particular tidemarks to pp.147-172, p. 172 the most affected. Minor spotting to edges, not affecting the leaves. Collated, all engraved plates and large folding map were excised.
