The second edition of this illustrated edition of Washington Irving's charming collection of five festive short stories, from the popular American author best known for 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow'. Published in the same year as the first edition illustrated by Randolph Caldecott.

With an illustrated frontispiece and title page, numerous vignette illustrations, and seven further plates. Collated, complete.

These illustrations are the work of Randolph Caldecott, a popular English artist and illustrator, best known for 'The House that Jack Built' and 'The Diverting History of John Gilpin'.

With a bookseller's blind stamp to the head of the front free endpaper.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding, with gilt detailing. Bumping to back strip head and tail. Hinges starting, with boards holding firm. Bookseller's blind stamp to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally clean and bright, with significant spotting to first and last few leaves.
