Early Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce
New early edition of My Diary in India in the Year 1858-9 by William Howard Russell in the original publisher's cloth binding.
Russell was an Irish reporter with The Times and considered one of the first modern war correspondents. During his time in India, he witnessed the final re-capture of Lucknow in 1858.
A very scarce new edition with only one copy held in libraries. Undated, dated from the copy held at the University of Manchester.
Prior owner's ink inscription to the first free endpaper dated 1876.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, sound. There is some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. There are a few small marks to the boards. The front hinge is starting but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to the first free endpaper dated 1876. Internally, generally firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with the occasional spot.
