The third edition stated of this work comprising an overview of early Arctic exploration, looking at the historical development from the pioneers of Polar exploration, through important voyages and explorations and explorers such as Henry Hudson, the Spitzbergen Route, all the way to the Arctic expedition of 1875.
From the library of Eric Kenneth Prentice Back. Kenn Back was a British meteorologist with the British Antarctic survey for many years. He spent eight winters in the Antarctic and is a descendent of Captain George Back. In addition, he served as base commander at Halley, Faraday and Rothera stations. His library collection was built over decades and highlights his love of polar exploration.

Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding with titles stamped in gilt to front board and spine. Externally, very smart with minor shelfwear and sight bumping to head of spine and extremities. CLoth to boards has slightly darkened. Kenn Back's bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Complete with seven maps, five of which are fold out (including frontispiece.) Map to frontispiece with some closed tears.
