    Description

    Decorative Binding, Fine Binding, Illustrated, Leather Binding

    A nice copy of this work on insects by Jules Michelet and illustrated throughout by Giacomelli, 'Illustrator of "The Bird"'. The book contains 140 black and white illustrations by Giacomelli, depicting scenes of birds, fish, insects, and wildlife. Divided into four sections: the Introduction, Book I (Metamorphosis), Book II (Mission and Arts of the Insect), and Book III (Communities of Insects).

    Condition

    In half calf Bickers and Son Ltd binding. Externally, smart with shelfwear to the extremities. Gilded lettering and design on the spine. Bookplate of previous owner to front pastedown 'J. Talbot Clifton of Kildalton', linked to the Kildalton Castle. Internally, firmly bound with scattered spotting. Spotting on the fore-edges, more severe to the first half.
