1875 Heredity and Hybridism: A Suggestion, and Spiritualism Answered by Science; With the Proofs of a Psychic Force
What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Leather Binding, Very Scarce
Two vanishingly scarce works from English lawyer and legal writer Edward William Cox, known as Serjeant Cox.
In the first work, a first edition, Cox discusses many scientific topics, including hybridisation - is the process of interbreeding individuals from genetically distinct populations - and heredity.
Chapters include 'when is sex determined?', 'why mules are barren', 'union of germs' and 'the growth of the chicken'.
In his introduction, Cox states that he hopes that there shall be shed 'some new light [...] upon those most obscure problems of Physiology and Psychology - the phenomena of Heredity and Hybridism'.
The second work is the 'revised and enlarged' second edition of Cox's work on parapsychology, 'Spiritualism Answered by Science', discussing philosophy, ethics and metaphysics.
This edition includes 'Correspondence upon Dr. Carpenter's asserted refutation of Mr. Crookes's experimental proof of the existence of a hitherto undetected force'.
With 'Ivor House, Barnet Gate' in gilt to the front board.
Two fascinating and unusual works from a writer known to have an interest in mediumship and seances.
