Written by English novelist William Makepeace Thackeray (1811-1863). Most renowned for 'Vanity Fair' which satirises life in early 19th century Britain, Thackeray was primarily known for his satires and parodies, criticising high society and the fickle aspirations of its members, such as profitability, marriage and power.
Condition
In blind stamped green cloth bindings with gilt design detailing to front board, and gilt title detailing to the spines. Externally, generally smart with light rubbing in places; with bumping and some fraying and slight loss to the extremities, and some marks to boards. The rear joint on Volume I is starting but still reasonably firm; the hinges on Volume I are tender, and the boards and spine are detached from the text block on Volume II. Internally, Volume I is generally firmly bound, Volume II is tender in places. The pages are clean with age toning, and tidemarks to the top of some pages in Volume I, not affecting the text.
