This attack was brought on by his outrage at the Vatican Council's decree of papal infallibility, this being his attempt to refute it.
Published in November 1874, this pamphlet sold 150,000 copies by the end of the year.
Gladstone was an important Victorian Liberal politician.
Disbound. Externally, the outer leaves are a little discoloured with some light spots. Remnants of a backstrip. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean.
