'Tales of Old Japan' was first published in 1871, and contains a number of short stories relating to life in Japan before the Meiji restoration in 1868. It includes the author's eyewitness accounts of Japanese rituals including seppuku.
Written by Algernon Bertram Freeman-Mitford (1837-1916), a British writer and diplomat and grandfather to the Mitford sisters.
Illustrated with twenty-eight woodcuts, and in a pictorial cloth binding.
Condition
In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally generally smart, with a little bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities, and the odd mark to the board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with just the odd spot.
