The second edition of this scarce work by British politician, antiquary and genealogist Evelyn Philip Shirley.

A signed presentation copy, with the inscription 'The Rev Dr Gibbings, D.D. with the very kind regards of the author'.

With numerous vignette illustrations and coats of arms throughout, and with a double page folding genealogical table.

Shirley presents an impressively researched genealogical account of the history of his own family, and their role as the Lords of Nether Etindon in Warwick, and in Derby.

First published in 1841, Shirley's work is scarce in all editions.

Condition

Rebacked, in the publisher's original cloth binding, with boards restored and back strip laid down. Retaining the original endpapers. Light marks to boards. Inscription to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Light tide marks to head of first 103 pages, with pages otherwise generally clean and bright. Majority of leaves unopened to head.
