Claudius Maria Mayet explores the life of French naval officer Auguste Marceau, his work, and influential Catholic faith. Marceau was known for his faith, and was often labelled 'le missionnaire des missionnaires;' he was made a knight of Saint-Grégoire-le-Grand by the pope in 1849. 

Complete in two volumes, a new edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece to volume I.

Condition

In a half calf binding over marbled boards with four raised bands. Externally excellent with minor shelf wear only and some sunning to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. With a minor faint scattered spotting to the first and last few leaves, otherwise the pages are bright and clean. Illustrated with a frontispiece to vol. I.
