What Our Customers Say...

Description

Leather Binding

Complete in twelve volumes. An extensively detailed history of England from around 1530 to 1588. The author worked on this series for over twenty years, extensively researching. He worked from original manuscripts from the Record Office and Hatfield House. The series is known for its dramatic writing, rather than being a scientific analysis of history. The author also defended the English Reformation, and focussed heavily on the figures of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. When published, the work was a success, though it did receive some criticism from publications such as the 'Christian Remembrancer' and the 'Edinburgh Review'. Written by James Anthony Froude, a historian, novelist, and the editor of the 'Fraser's Magazine'. This was his best known work, and led to him becoming the best known historian of his time. Bookplate to the front pastedowns, 'G. de Clifton Parmiter'.

Condition

In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, smart. A very little bumping to the extremities. Some light marks and a little loss of leather to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
