An early edition of this work, originally published in 1866. A collection of tales by Hans Christian Andersen, containing both children's fairy tales and stories addressed to older readers. Some feature autobiographical themes. Translated from the German by H W Dulcken. 

Illustrated in text by A. W. Bayes. engraved by the Brothers Dalziel.

Condition

In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally smart with minor shelf wear, bumped to head and tail of spine and extremities. Front hinge slightly strained. H S Potter's stamp to verso front free endpaper. Upper margin front free endpaper was excised. Internally, firmly bound. Minor spotting to first and last few leaves, pages otherwise generally bright and clean.
