Illustrated, Leather Binding, Signed Binding

In a signed binding by Mudie. 'The Abbot' is a historical novel, the sequel to Scott's earlier novel 'The Monastery'. The novel is set during the time of Mary Queen of Scots. It follows the characters featured in 'The Monastery', and is set ten years since the last novel. It mostly revolves around the imprisonment of Queen March in 1567 at Loch Leven Castle, and is focussed on her escape and her defeat. Illustrated with a frontispiece, and five plates. Walter Scott is best known for his historical novels and poems, including 'Waverley', 'Ivanhoe', and 'The Lady of the Lake'.

Condition

In a half morocco signed binding by Mudie, with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, smart. A little rubbing to the extremities, resulting in a very little loss to the tail of the rear board. A little discolouration to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot, heavier to the first and last few pages.
