Illustrated with a frontispiece, forty-four vignette illustrations and plates, and a folding map displaying routes taken by the author to the rear. Collated, complete.

Bush concerning his expedition in Siberia undertaken between 1865-1867 to survey the proposed route of the Russian-American Telegraph Company's line, and investigate the possibility of of connecting two continents by telegraph through the Bering Strait.

Bush details the challenges encountered on this expedition, including supply shortages, hungry wild dogs and a sinking ship.

Rebound in full cloth by the Cossington Grange Library, Oakham, and with their stamps to the recto of the frontispiece and title page, but not present elsewhere. With the original cloth covered front board bound in to the rear, featuring a subscription library bookplate.

A fascinating first hand account of this pioneering expedition, featuring illustrations 'taken on the spot by the author himself'.

Original cloth front board bound in to rear, with subscription library bookplate affixed. Internally, firmly bound. Spotting and handling marks throughout. Light amateur drawings to half title. Extensive tape repairs to reverse of folding map.
