Edited by Robert Kemp Philp (1819-1882), the man behind 'Enquire Within upon Everything' and various other how-to guides, which are generally described as being equivalent to concise encyclopedias for domesticity, covering many aspects of advice for the home.

This copy is one quarter morocco bound, with a gilded emblem on the front cover demonstrating the four corners of home life - the Garden, the Field, the Study and the Kitchen. It contains excellent advertisements to the pastedowns for London-based companies for dye, flour, chlorodyne, candles, condensed milk and cocoa respectively. It also features an owner's inscription dated 1871.
