The first edition of this very scarce work.

A detailed account of an expedition undertaken by the author in 1870, in which he explored the churches of Lincoln.

This was one of six excursions proposed by Sharpe to study and draw buildings indifferent areas between 1870 to 1875. 

Sharpe was an architect and architectural historian, whose main focus was on churches. 

Illustrated with one folding plate, and fifty-two plates.

Collated, bound without a total of thirteen plates, lacking plates numbered 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 9, 14, 19, 22, 25, 30, 40, and 53.

Four pages of adverts to the rear.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding, rebacked with the original boards and spine restored, with renewed endpapers. Externally, generally smart. Light rubbing to the cloth. Minor bumping to the extremities. Cloth to the front joint is lifting a little. Light marks to the cloth. Spine is a little discoloured. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with the occasional scattered spot. Bound without thirteen plates.
