The scarce first edition of physician, politician and writer Jose de Lacerda's Portuguese-English dictionary.
Arranged alphabetically, Lacerda explains in his preface that 'the vocabulary of the Portuguese language, which served as a basis to this dictionary, is doubtless more extensive than any one of the Portuguese Dictionaries hitherto published'.
Lacerda offers a wealth of Portuguese words, alongside their English language definitions.
With the perforated stamp of the University of Minnesota Library to the tail of the title page, a further library stamp to the tail of the following leaf, and the stamp of A. M. Norton to the head of the first leaf of 'A'. In a full cloth library binding.

Rebound in a full cloth library binding. Endpapers renewed. Externally, fine. Internally, firmly bound. Perforated library stamp to tail of title page. Tape reinforcement to gutter of title page. Former owner's stamp to head of first leaf of 'A'. Pages age toned, with handling marks and instances of spotting throughout.
