The Reverend John George Wood is now known as one of the major popularisers of natural history. A well-known parson-naturalist of the Victorian era, he saw the study of the natural sciences as an extension of his religious work.
He intended this work to serve as an introduction to Entomology, and as such provides detailed information of the types of moth a native inhabitant of England would be most likely to encounter.
