First edition. Biographical sketches of the Judges of England from 1066 to 1870 organised into dictionary format for referencing purposes. Written and collected by Edward Foss, an English lawyer and biographer. He became a solicitor, and on his retirement from practice in 1840, devoted himself to the study of legal antiquities. His Judges of England was regarded as a standard work, characterized by accuracy and extensive research.

Condition

The original brown cloth binding has been rebacked to contemporary boards. Externally, smart with rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd handling mark.
