In a prize binding from Edinburgh Academy bound by MacLaren & MacNiven, with a prize label to the front paste down, a notable private day school in Edinburgh which opened in 1824. Notable alumni include Robert Louis Stevenson and Andrew Lang.

An educational volume for children on oceanography and marine biology, originally published in French as 'Le Monde de la Mare' by Monsieur Moquin-Tandon.

Illustrated with a frontispiece, seventeen plates, and in-text illustrations.

Collated, complete.

This edition translated into English and enlarged by H. Martyn Hart.

Undated, dated from Jisc from a copy at the Natural History Museum Library.

Condition

In a full calf prize binding, bound for the Edinburgh Academy by MacLaren & MacNiven. Externally, smart, with very light rubbing to the spine and extremities. Some minor marks and spots to the boards and spine. Prize label to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean with some scattered spots. Minor tide mark to the margins of the frontispiece.
