What Our Customers Say...

Description

Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce

Walter Hilton's work of Christian mysticism was originally written in the fourteenth century in two volumes. This 1869 new edition is edited with a preface by Robert E. Guy. A scarce volume, particularly in early editions.

Walter Hilton was an Augustinian mystic, influential in fifteenth century England and Wales. The present is a new edition of his major work, and it deals with the destruction of man's sinful soul in three spiritual powers of Mind, Reason, and Will, reflecting the Holy Trinity. Liberation can be obtained through a series of meditations focused on the seven deadly sins, and contemplation in perfect love of God.

Condition

In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally generally sound with considerable shelf wear and minor damp marking to the boards, particularly to the front, which is slightly cockled. Minor cockling to the front pastedown also. The hinges are only slightly strained, holding firm. The volume, firmly bound. Minor staining mark to the first few leaves, not affecting the text, otherwise the pages are very clean with a touch of age toning, as usual with the type of paper used.
