First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce

The first collected edition of the poems of Emma Catherine Embury, American author, pioneer of female literature in the United States. She often published under her pen name 'Ianthe' and contributed to numerous periodicals of her time. Containing a complete anthology of her poems, published in the order in which they were written. A very scarce work.

Condition

In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally sound with shelf wear and minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities, minor loss to the head of the spine, faint minor damp marking to the boards. The back-strip was laid down. With AF Furman and BM Collins bookplates to the front pastedown, previous owner's gift inscription to the front free endpaper, 'Mrs Williams's with compliments of Mrs. S E Embury,' dated 1869. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean. With the author's coat of arms hand coloured to the title page.
