Description
Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce
Edwin Landseer (1802-1873) designed the lion sculptures which sit at the base of Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square; he also has works in the Tate Britain, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Wallace Collection. It was rumoured that Landseer possessed the ability of painting with both hands simultaneously: he was an extremely fast painter, but also known to put off completing certain commissions for years at a time.
Illustrated with sixteen full plate photographs. Collated, complete.
Contains a gift insciption dated Christmas 1868: Papa and Mamma, from Charles, Harry and Ada.
Condition
In a full cloth binding, with original binding laid down. Externally very smart, some rubbing to the bottom right hand corner of the front board and extremities, with minor bumping to the head of the spine. Gift inscription to the half title page. Internally firmly bound, pages bright and clean with the odd spot.
