Complete in twenty four volumes. Illustrated throughout with hundreds of plates and numerous vignettes. Collated using binder's instructions, complete with all plates. In green half morocco bindings by Bayntun of Bath. Includes all of Thackeray's works such as Vanity Fair (in two volumes), Pendennis (in two volumes), The Newcomes (in two volumes), Henry Esmond, The Virginians (in two volumes), The Adventures of Philip (in two volumes), The Paris Sketch Book, The Memoirs of Barry Lyndon, Esq., The Irish Sketch Book, The Book of Snobs, Burlesques, The Christmas Books, Ballads and Tales, The Four Georges, Roundabout Papers, Dennis Duval, Catherine: A Story, Miscellaneous Essays, and Contributions to Punch. William Makepeace Thackeray was an incredibly popular nineteenth century novelist. His contemporaries regarded his work as equal to Charles Dickens. Admired for his use of satire and wit Thackeray's works were a popular read to many.

Condition

In half morocco bindings with cloth covered boards. Externally, very smart with rubbing to the head and tail of spines. Small loss to head and tail of spine to volumes XII, XIV, XV, XVI and XVIII. Loss to only the head of spine to volumes XIX, XX, XXI and XXII. Small patches of rubbing to the joints of several volumes as well. Small tidemark to the vignette title page and corner of several plates to volume IX (The Virginians II) not affecting text. Prior owner's signature to the recto of front endpaper to all volumes, 'Kemp'. Binder's stamp to verso of front endpaper indicates a Bayntuns of Bath binding. Spines have faded as expected with this colour. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned though generally clean with the odd spot throughout.
