Description

First Edition, Leather Binding

In the original French. First edition thus, being the first Rolls edition of this work. Two volumes only of this work, being 1399-1422 and 1422-1431. This work was split into five volumes for the Rolls Series. The Rolls Series is a major collection of British and Irish historical materials and primary sources. There were 99 works published in 253 volumes between 1858 and 1911. Almost all of the great medieval English chronicles were included in this publication. It was a government funded series because existing editions published by scholars were considered unsatisfactory. The second volume remains unopened to the top edge. de Waurin/Wavrin compiled this work from Froissart, Monstrelet and others. The period between 1444 and 1471 is all original material by de Wavrin and is an important contemporary source on a French perspective on Britain at this time.
