Early Edition, Folding Maps, Illustrated, Leather Binding

The second edition of this work, first published the year prior.

Illustrated with five plates, with two folding maps, and one folding plate. Collated, complete.

Edited by English historical and antiquarian writer Thomas Henry Dyer.

A fascinating and impressively detailed account of the destruction of Pompeii, its nineteenth century excavation, and the buildings and antiquities found. Also detailed is an itinerary for the late Victorian tourist.

Condition

In a half calf binding, with marbled paper covered boards and gilt detailing to spine. A touch of rubbing to joints, otherwise externally excellent. Hinges strained but firmly held.
