What Our Customers Say...

Description

Colour Plates, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce

A scarce edition of this popular work.

Illustrated strikingly with a hand-coloured frontispiece, and eleven hand-coloured plates.

The plates have been hand-coloured by a prior owner; the final two plates have only a touch of pink to them, whereas the others are fully painted in colour.

A lovely collection of the important fairy tales of the Countess d'Aulnoy, one of the originators of the popular genre.

D'Aulnoy's tales vary from those of the Grimms, as her tales are more conversational in style, so that they might be told in salons.

The collection includes 'The Fair With Golden Hair', 'The Bee and the Orange Tree', 'Finette Cendron', 'The Yellow Dwarf', The Princess Carpillon', 'The White Cat', 'Princess Belle-Etoile and Prince Cheri', and more.

This collection translated from French into English by J. R. Planche.

Illustrated by John Gilbert.

Collated from WorldCat, bound without ten plates.
