The first edition of this scarce work.
Augusta Hall, the Baroness Llanover, was a prominent Welsh heiress and patron of the arts.
In this work, Llanover gives an overview on the basic principles of good cookery, instructing clearly on cookey and domestic economy, as well as other matters involving home comfort.
'Good Cookery' is uniquely layed out cookery work, structured around conversations of a traveller to Llanover and the Hermit of Llanover, with tales of Welsh folklore alongside typical recipes enjoyed in the country.
Illustrated with a frontispiece, and eleven plates.
Collated, complete. Pages 417-432 are misbound between pages 480 to 481. Though misbound text is complete.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, boards are a little discoloured with some marks, including a damp stain to the rear board. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities, with a small amount of loss of cloth. Small crack to the head of the front joint, with a small amount of loss. Very small chip to the backstrip. Hinges are starting but firm. Internally, binding has failed between pages 320 and 321, gatherings Y and Z detached but present. Pages are bright and clean with a few light handling marks.
