Description

Publishers' Original Binding

The very scarce third edition of Thoreau's work, with 'Third Edition' appearing to the colophon. Borst A4.1.d.

First published in 1864, the author provides an account of three trips undertaken over a period of three years, in which Thoreau climbed mountains, paddled a canoe by moonlight, and dined on cedar beer, hemlock tea and moose lips within the wild woods of the state of Maine.

With a detailed and informative appendix to the rear.

A scarce edition of Thoreau's striking account of the wilder side of mid-nineteenth century America.

Condition

Rebacked, in the publisher's original cloth binding, with original back strip laid down, and board restored. Retaining the original endpapers. Slight discolouration to back strip, otherwise externally excellent. Internally, binding a touch strained, with gathering between pages 81 and 88 detached and loosely inserted. Pages generally clean and bright, with the odd handling mark or light spot.
