A later, pocket sized edition of this volume celebrating the life of important British men.

Dr. John Donne was an English poet, later cleric to the Church of England, who is considered the preeminent representative of the metaphysical poets; Sir Henry Wotton was an English author and politician, who sat in the House of Commons from 1614 to 1625. Richard Hooker was an English priest and one of the most influential theologian in the sixteenth century. George Herbert was a Welsh poet, later priest of the Church of England, whose works are associated with the writings of metaphysical poets. Robert Sanderson was an English theologian and casuist, with his work on logic being a widely read textbook in the seventeenth century. 


Condition

Bound in half calf with cloth boards, five raised bands, titles in gilt to spine, gilt to top edge, and marbled endpapers. Externally lovely with minor shelfwear only. Small bookseller stamp to recto front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
