Description

Colour Plates, Early Edition, Publishers' Original Binding

Early Edition.

Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, and illustrated title page, and thirteen other colour plates.

With an illustrated bookplate on front pastedown belonging to Clifford Allbutt (1836-1925), an English physician who was president of the British Medical Association in 1920 and invented the clinical thermometer.

This second edition is the only edition of this work to include 'An Essay on Thunder and Small Beer', which serves as the preface.

This is the fourth of 'The Christmas Books' by Mr M. A. Titmarsh, the pseudonym of William Makepeace Thackeray. This particular work is a satirical attack on the Grand Tours, in which upper-class young gentleman would travel around Europe for 'cultural immersion'.
