The very scarce first edition of this work from Scottish geologist James Nicol, a Professor of Natural History at the University of Aberdeen, and expert in the geology of Scotland.

This work, accompanied with notes and an appendix, consists of two lectures on the geology and topography of the north of Scotland given by Nicol at the Philosophical Institution, Edinburgh.

With a small number of vignette illustrations.

With a contemporary owners inscription, dated 1866, to the front free endpaper, and former owner's stamp to front pastedown.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail and board extremities, with areas of slight fading to the cloth. Former owner's stamp to front pastedown, and contemporary owner's inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned due to paper type, with the odd handling mark.
