With each volume retaining the original half title, and a twenty page publisher's catalogue to the rear of volume III.
With a contemporary inscription to the front free endpaper of volume I, dated 1866, copying out a biblical passage.
A first edition of this lesser read novel from the author of 'Middlemarch' and 'The Mill on the Floss'.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth bindings. Bumping to spine heads and tails, with a small closed tear in the cloth at the head of volume II. Boards bright. Head and tail of volume I neatly rebacked, with original cloth restored, and retaining the original endpapers. Inscription to front free endpaper of volume I. Internally, firmly bound, with pages generally clean and bright. Marks to publisher's catalogue.
