Description

First Edition, Folding Maps, Scarce

First published in Melbourne, 1865. First UK edition 1866.

This book contains Captain Thomas Musgrave's narrative of his wreck with the brigantine Grafton, edited by John J. Shillinglaw from the Captain's own personal journals. Musgrave and his crew set off in 1863 on a prospecting and sealing expedition to Campbell Island and the Auckland Islands. The ship wrecked in 1865 and all five of the crew members were cast away in Carnley Harbour, Auckland, for eighteen months, until they were able to repair the dinghy; Three of them, including Musgrave,  sailed for 400 km and got rescued.
