In eleven volumes. 'Archaeologia' is a journal published by the Society of Antiquaries of London, which began publication in 1770. The journal consisted of papers and lectures that had been delivered at the society's meetings, delivered by a wide variety of influential members, such as William Cowper, John Braithwaite, John Lubbock, William Henry Smyth, and more. The journal currently has one-hundred and eleven volumes published, and whilst the publication hasn't been formally terminated, no volumes have been published since 2007. There was also a break during the Second World War, after which the publication became more irregular, though up until 1939 the journal was published on a fairly regular basis. Containing; Volume XXXIX, part II. Incomplete as lacking part I. This volume is bound without the title page. With four colour plates, and six monochrome plates. Collated, complete. Volume XL, parts I and II. This volume was published in 1866. Part I with two folding maps, one colour plate, and eleven monochrome plates. Part II with one colour folding plate, four colour plates, and fourteen monochrome plates. Collated, complete. Volume XLI, parts I and II. This volume was published in 1867. Part I with one folding plate, and eleven monochrome plates. Part II with one monochrome folding plate, one colour plate, and seven monochrome plates. Collated, complete. Volume XLII, parts I and II. This volume was published in 1869. Part I with two folding plates, and twelve monochrome plates. Part II with four colour plates, and seventeen monochrome plates. Collated, complete. Volume XLIII, parts I and II. This volume was published in 1871. Part I with one colour plate, one folding plate, and twenty-one monochrome plates. Part II with fifteen monochrome plates. Collated, complete. Volume XLIV, parts I and II. This volume was published in 1873. Part I with three colour plates, and three monochrome plates. Part II with thirteen monochrome plates. Collated, complete. The President of the Society at the time of these journals publication was Philip Stanhope. He was a politician and held office under Sir Robert Peel, though he is best known for his cultural contributions to literature and antiquaries. Some of his works include 'Life of Belisarius', 'The Reign of Queen Anne Until the Peace of Utrecht', and 'History of England From the Peace of Utrecht to the Peace of Versailles, 1713-1783'.

Condition

In the original cloth binding. Externally, smart. A little bumping to the head and tail of the spines. Some light marks to the boards. Some minor fading to the spines of a couple of volumes. Dampstaining to the boards of Volume XLII Part I. A little fading to the front boards of Volume XLIII Part II and Volume XLIV Part II. Very small tear to the head of the spine of Volume XXXIX Part II, Volume XL Part I, Volume XLIII Part I. Front hinge of Volume XLIV Part II is starting but firm. Rear hinge of Volume XL Part II is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound, though Volume XLII Part I is generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, though with the very occasional light spot across the volumes. Pages uncut to the fore edges.
