Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

Historical novel by George Eliot (Mary Ann Evans) set in the fifteenth century. Originally published serially in 'Cornhill Magazine' from July 1862 to August 1863. First book form edition published in three volumes in 1863.

Set in Florence during the Italian Renaissance, proposing a study of the life at the time from an intellectual, artistic, religious, and social point of view.

The illustrated edition with frontispiece and additional illustrated title page as well as three further plates of illustrations. 

Condition

In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally with bumping and chipping to head and tail of spine, back strip faded, light damp marking to boards and spine. Internally, firmly bound. Light minor spotting to odd leaf, pages otherwise bright and clean.
