The merchant shipping code was issued, along with other codes, in what has been called the 'Risorgimento Legal Italian', which saw the unification of laws across the whole of the Kingdom of Italy. The code marked an era of progress for Italy.

In a quarter paper vellum binding, with marbled paper covered boards. Publisher's wraps bound in. Light discolouration to back strip, with rubbing to boards. Bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages age toned, with spotting throughout.
