Complete in two volumes.

A biography on the life of Josiah Wedgwood, the noted English potter who founded the Wedgwood company, known for his improvements on the manufacture of European pottery.

Wedgwood was also a prominent abolitionist, was the grandfather of Charles Darwin, and is often credited as being the inventor of modern marketing, pioneering strategies such as direct mail, free delivery, and buy one get one free.

Collected from letters written by Josiah Wedgwood, written to people such as Joseph Mayer, F. Wedgwood, and Charles Darwin.

Volume I illustrated with a frontispiece, and many in-text engravings. Collated, complete.

Volume II illustrated with a frontispiece, one colour folding plate, nine plates, and many in-text engravings. Collated, complete.

Introduction written by Eliza Meteyard, who was known for being an authority on Wedgwood pottery.

Bookplate to the front pastedowns, 'Ricardi Boughen'. Stamp to the half-title of Volume I, and to the title pages of each volume.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding, rebacked with the original boards and spines restored. Externally, smart. A little discolouration to the spine. Some minor marks to the boards and spines. Minor bumping to the extremities. Evidence of former loss to the spine, restored by rebacking. Bookplate to the front pastedowns. Front hinge of Volume I is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with a couple of spots. Colour plate to Volume II is detached but present. Tidemark to the frontispiece of Volume I.
