James Hain Friswell was an essayist and novelist. He frequently contributed to Chambers's Journal, The Spectator and to the Pictorial World. The first edition of this work. These essays reflect on many aspects of human life including childhood, judgement of others, happiness, on evil, the barbarities of war and the barbarities of peace.

Condition

In a half calf binding with paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart with light rubbing to the joints and extremities. Light rubbing to the spine. Inscription to the recto of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with just the odd spots to the first and last few pages.
