This book contains Shakespeare's dramatic works, including his plays 'Much Ado About Nothing', 'As You Like It', 'Macbeth', 'Coriolanus', 'Romeo and Juliet', and 'Hamlet'. Shakespeare is the world's most famous playwright, his plays still being performed in theatres and studied in schools five-hundred years after they were written. He is known for his three genres of plays, tragedies, histories, and comedies. This book contains a collection of all three genres. With 'A Life' by the Scottish poet Thomas Campbell. Campbell is known for his poem 'The Pleasures of Hope', and 'Life of Mrs Siddons'. Complete with a frontispiece and a further sixteen black and white plates. In a prize binding by Christ's Hospital, with a book plate to the front pastedown, 'Presented by The Governors of Christ's Hospital, London, to Edward M Field for a Classical Prise Deputy Grecians Class, Examination Dec 1865'. Collated, complete.

Condition

In a full calf prize binding. Externally, smart. Rubbing has caused slight loss to the hinges. Light rubbing to the spine, mostly to the raised bands, and to the extremities. Head of spine is lightly lifting to the front joint due to rubbing, however remains firm. A little fading to the spine. Minor rubbing and markings to the boards, with just a very small amount of loss to the front board. Book plate to the front pastedown, 'Presented by The Governors of Christ's Hospital, London, to Edward M Field for a Classical Prise Deputy Grecians Class, Examination Dec 1865'. Hinges are starting but remain firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean, with just the odd spot and handling mark throughout, mostly being to the first few pages. Chips to the bottom of pages 495 to 526, however doesn't affect text. Tidemark to the top of all plates, however doesn't affect the illustrations.
