First Edition, Uncommon

The uncommon first edition of this three volume work in the publisher's original blind-stamped cloth binding. Library stamps to the front free end papers of all volumes. William Harrison Ainsworth (1805-1882) was a well-known historical novelist. He originally trained as a lawyer, but soon found his calling as a successful and prolific author. This work is a historical romance based on the marriage between King Philip of Spain and Queen Mary Tudor of England.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally very smart, with just a little rubbing to the gilt lettering to the spine and faint marks to the front board of Vol II. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for spotting to the first and last couple of pages. Small holes to the paste down and front free end paper of Vol I, to the front free end paper of Vol II. Loss to the half title page of Vol I, not affecting the text. Loss to the title page of Vol II and III, not affecting the text.
