A very scarce first edition.

The work of German-English physician Julius Althaus, known for his use of electrical treatments to patients, and for his role in creating the Maida Vale Hospital for Nervous Diseases.

Beginning with the explanation that 'mineral waters have a special claim upon the attention of the medical profession' due to their 'remarkable physiological and therapeutical properties'.

With a thirty-two page publisher's catalogue to the rear.

Chapters discuss properties of mineral waters, the origins of springs, the chemical compositions of waters, the geographical distribution of spas, and their therapeutic uses.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with discolouration to back strip. Discolouration to head of fore edges of boards. Hinges strained, but firmly held. Internally, firmly held. Pages lightly age toned, with handling marks throughout.
