Complete in two volumes. John Dryden (1631 - 1700) was an influential English poet, literary critic, translator, and playwright who dominated the literary life of Restoration England to such a point that the period came to be known in literary circles as the Age of Dryden. Walter Scott called him "Glorious John." He was made Poet Laureate in 1668. George Gilfillan (1813 - 1878) was a Scottish author and poet. He was one of the spasmodic poets, and an editor and commentator of earlier British poetry.
Condition
In calf bindings. Externally, generally smart but with slight wear to extremities, slight rubbing and marks to boards and slight fading to spines. With an ink inscription dated 1863 to front blank of volume one. Internally, firmly bound. Bright and generally clean throughout but with slight foxing predominantly to front and rear of volumes.
