What Our Customers Say...
Description
Leather Binding, Prize Binding, Scarce
An interesting autobiographical work from Basil Hall, a successful Naval Captain. Basil Hall was born in 1788 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Joining the Navy in 1802, he steadily rose to the rank of Captain. Encouraged by his father to keep a journal of his time at sea, these journals late became the source of his books. This particular work explores the authors own career in the army, with 'fragments' from his travel, voyages and experiences. This copy is a prize binding from Queen Elizabeth School in Ipswich. There is a prize inscription to the front pastedown: 'Henry Franks Nesbitt, Choir Prize, Queen Elizabeth School, Ipswich, 1877'.
Condition
Handsomely bound in full red morocco prize binding with gilt design and lettering on the boards and spine. Externally, smart, with minor shelf wear. Front joint is slightly starting, but still remains very firm. Prize inscription to the front pastedown. Internally, scattered spots to the first and last few pages, and the odd spot throughout, but otherwise pages bright and clean.
