    Illustrated with twelve chromolithograph plates and a folding map. Collated, complete.

    A smart full calf edition of this work, containing a series of biblical illustrations from observations made by missionary W. M. Thomson during his travels through the Holy Land over the course of thirty years. With descriptions of Phoenicia and Palestine, with sections concerning sea-coast plains and Sharon and Philistia.

    With a contemporary inscription, dated 1863, to a front blank.

    Condition

    In a full calf binding. Rubbing to back strip head and tail and joints. Front hinge starting, with board holding firm. Contemporary inscription to a front blank. Internally, firmly bound. Spotting to first few leaves, with pages otherwise generally clean and bright. Significant closed tear to folding map.
