Anne Pratt was a popular botanical illustrator in Victorian England. She wrote many books on botanicas, with the most popular being 'The Flowering Plants, Grasses, Sedges, and Ferns of Great Britain and Their Allies the Club Mosses, Pepperworts, and Horsetails', a six volume set that took twelve years to publish in full. Though her illustrations were popular at the time and brought a love of nature to many, she's sadly never received great acclaim or recognition, as she was a self-taught woman.

Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper, 'G. S. Ellis Haystone'.
